MLC Supports AHDB “Right Start, Right Carcase, Right Market” Event

Meat & Livestock Classification (MLC) was pleased to take part in the AHDB’s Right Start, Right Carcase, Right Market event held yesterday at Myerscough College, Lancashire, which brought together farmers, vets and industry specialists to share best practice on livestock management, market requirements and carcase classification.

Representing MLC, Steve Hamilton, Head of Operations, delivered a practical live weight presentation. He demonstrated how to assess both conformation and fat levels in cattle, providing attendees with hands-on guidance to help them better understand the classification process. Steve also explained dressing specifications and outlined how these affect carcase weight – key knowledge for producers aiming to optimise returns and meet processor demands.

The day also featured expert talks from AHDB specialists and vets, covering animal health, market expectations, butchery and the benefits of aligning production with consumer demand. The event was well attended and generated valuable discussion on how producers can improve outcomes through better livestock selection and management.

This was the first in a series of events, organised by AHDB’s Karl Pendlebury, designed to support farmers across the country. Upcoming dates include:
