MLC Attends National Beef Association Beef Expo 2026 at Melton Mowbray
MLC was delighted to attend the National Beef Association (NBA) Beef Expo 2026, held at Melton Mowbray Market on Saturday 30th May. The event brought together farmers, processors, breeders, industry organisations and agricultural businesses from across the UK for one of the most important dates in the British beef calendar. This year's Expo focused on the theme of "Beefing Up Food Security", highlighting the importance of a resilient and sustainable domestic beef sector.
Representing MLC at the event were Sam Taylor, Deputy Operations Manager for the North, Lyndon Roberts, Operations Manager for the South, Steve Peaty, MLC Head of Operations, and Patrick Steel, Managing Director of Vorenta Group.
Throughout the day, the team had the opportunity to engage with producers, customers and industry stakeholders, discussing current market conditions, classification developments and the challenges and opportunities facing the beef sector. A particular focus of many conversations was the importance of dressing specifications and the role they play in ensuring farmers receive fair and accurate payment for their livestock. The Expo provided an excellent platform to strengthen existing relationships while meeting new contacts from across the industry.
The National Commercial Cattle Show once again showcased some of the finest commercial cattle from around the country, demonstrating the quality, professionalism and dedication that continue to drive the British beef industry forward. Alongside the livestock competitions, visitors attended a range of seminars and industry discussions covering food security, sustainability, livestock health and the future of UK beef production.
For MLC, the event was a valuable opportunity to reinforce the importance of accurate and consistent classification in supporting transparency and confidence throughout the supply chain. The team welcomed the chance to discuss industry developments and listen to feedback from producers and processors alike, highlighting the significance of independent classification and monitoring of dressing specifications to ensure equitable returns for farmers.
In addition to classification, MLC representatives discussed dressing specifications with numerous farmers and industry stakeholders, explaining how different approved dressing methods can influence carcase weight and ultimately affect producer returns. The team emphasised MLC's independent role in monitoring dressing specifications to ensure compliance with agreed standards and to help prevent situations where excessive trimming before weighing could result in unnecessary financial losses for farmers.
Steve Peaty, Head of Operations, commented:
"The NBA Beef Expo continues to be an important event for everyone involved in the beef industry. It was great to speak with so many producers and stakeholders throughout the day and hear first-hand about the opportunities and challenges facing the sector. Events like this are invaluable for strengthening relationships and ensuring we continue to support the industry effectively."
MLC would like to thank the National Beef Association, exhibitors, organisers and everyone who visited the event for making the day such a success. We look forward to continuing to support the industry and returning to future NBA events.
