MLC Supports NSA Central Region Next Generation Shepherd Competition
Steve Peaty and Ryan Griffiths attended the NSA Central Region Next Generation Shepherd Competition on Saturday 9th May 2026 at the Nottinghamshire County Show, Newark Showground.
The event brought together an enthusiastic group of young farmers for a day dedicated to developing practical sheep farming skills, encouraging learning and promoting the future of the sheep industry through friendly competition.
As part of MLC’s continued commitment to supporting education and development within the livestock sector, MLC sponsored and assisted with the lamb selection task, helping competitors demonstrate their understanding of livestock selection and assessment skills.
The competition featured a range of practical activities designed to test and develop participants’ abilities, while also providing valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing and peer learning throughout the day. The high standard of competition reflected the passion, dedication and professionalism of the next generation entering the sheep industry.
Congratulations go to all competitors, with Chloe Nadin crowned overall winner. Hannah Grindey secured second place, Samantha Brown finished third, and 16-year-old Luke Hadfield achieved fourth place while also being recognised as the highest placed competitor under 21 years of age.
MLC would like to thank the National Sheep Association Central Region team for organising such a successful event, alongside all sponsors, volunteers and supporters who contributed to the day. Special thanks also go to Nottinghamshire County Show for hosting the competition and providing an excellent platform for members of the public to engage with sheep farming and learn more about the wider livestock industry.
Events such as the NSA Central Region Shepherd Competition play an important role in encouraging young people into agriculture and ensuring valuable livestock handling and assessment skills continue to be developed across the industry.
